Positioning your book for success includes being aware of the world around you.  How can one author keep up with social media mentions, blog comments, new book reviews and everything else that is going on in the online world.  There are a few tools available that can help an author stay on top of the online conversation about their book.

How to be everywhere at once?

You can’t physically be everyone at once, so why not let technology take care of that for you.

Here are 3 online tools to help you monitor your book buzz:

  1. Google Alerts.  This free tool provides instant email notifications every time your book title, name or other keywords are mentioned, that you want to follow.  You decide what key words you want to monitor and Google does the rest of the work. They’ll email you links to content that is tied to your key words.  Use it to keep track of your own book and your competition.  This tool can also help you sell more books if used properly.
  2. Twitter.  Interested in what is being “Tweeted” about you get in the habit of using hashtags “#” to search out your own handle or keywords you’re using or search out your competition.  Also use hashtags to find new people to follow.
  3. Google Analytics. Want to know who is visiting your website and where they are coming from?  Sign-up for Google Analytics and install the code on your website and you’ll be able analyze how your blog articles are performing, where in the world your site visits are coming from and understand which of your social media outlets is working for you.

Use these tools and check in with them at least once a week to see who is talking about you and what is going on in your own marketing space. It will give you an edge over the competition.  Information can be the most powerful tool to position your book for marketing success!

Which of these tools are you using to monitor your book buzz?
