2012 The London Book Fair *New Title Showcase*: London, UK-April 16-April 18, 2012

London Book Fair

While the 2010 London Book Fair saw its fair share of volcano-related adversity, 2011 was a return to form, and there's no reason why 2012 shouldn't continue the trend. Attendance generally reaches and exceeds 23 thousand people from 112 different countries, and the New Title Showcase (entering its sixth installment) is the most accessible and successful of all of London's official exhibits. The London Book Fair attendance includes book buyers, agents, publishers, editors, librarians, distributors and so many more, and the New Title Showcase (organized by Combined Book Exhibit) gives your books optimum exposure!

Book Fair Marketing FAQs

1. What are the benefits of having my book at a trade show?

Most trade shows are attended by the very people who will buy or can help sell your books. Trade shows represent a valuable opportunity to have your titles marketed to the much targeted audience. Additionally, they provide you exposure to people who might not know about your book at all.

2. What can I expect from having my book displayed at a trade show?

All trade shows are different and afford you different opportunities. From most state, regional and national library industry trade shows, you can expect to have your book seen by several levels of library staff, including those who select books for their individual libraries and library systems, and those who might recommend your book to their patrons.

International shows grant you the opportunity to be seen by a broader audience which might grant leads working towards translation rights sales, distribution deals, book sales, library acquisitions and so much more.

Most importantly, from trade shows you can expect targeted exposure to a broad audience and a great marketing opportunity. Industry trade shows are not sales mechanisms but marketing and lead gathering opportunities.

3. How will my book be displayed?

Through a partnership with NY-based Combined Book Exhibit we are able to give you the chance to have your books displayed face out in their collection, under the Infinity Publishing brand.

4. Who is Combined Book Exhibit?

Combined Book Exhibit is a company that, for 75 years, has been an outlet for publishers of all sizes to display their titles at trade shows around the world at a low cost. With such history comes seniority, and with that come prime exhibit location, a great reputation, healthy traffic, and the expertise to make sure your title isn't lost in the crowd even at a large venue.

5. Why exhibit with Infinity Publishing and Combined Book Exhibit instead of on my own?

When you attend a trade show on your own, you're required to purchase booth space, purchase booth furnishings, pay each venue's fees for shipping, staff the booth and it’s likely that if you're a new exhibitor you'll have a poor location (all assuming the show is local and you don't need to pay for travel and lodging). As part of the Infinity Publishing/Combined Book Exhibit partnership, you save all the money associated with attending yourself, while being a part of a collective located in a prime location and alongside other small independent presses, and in many cases larger reputable publishers like Random House Harper Collins and others.

6. Can I attend a show?

Because of the high volume of participating publisher and authors in each exhibit, we can't provide our participants with badges for entry. However, Combined Book Exhibit may be able to accommodate a few participants for a short visit on a case by case basis. Please contact Combined Book Exhibit for details. Please note that if you are attending the show with Combined Book Exhibit's permission, out of fairness to those who could not be accommodated, you will be asked to not use the Combined Book Exhibits booth for solicitation of your book.

7. Does CBE take orders on my behalf at these shows?

No. As these trade shows are generally industry only, they tend to be mostly information gathering opportunities. As such, it is extremely rare for any orders to be taken, however on the very rare occasion this might occur, CBE would be happy to take the order information and pass it to you, however, we will direct the interested party to contact you with the information you've provided to be listed in the catalog.

8.  How many books will I sell?

As with any marketing service, there is no guarantee on book sales. Book fairs are a proven method of marketing a book.  Book buyers attend book fairs to find new titles.  Your book fair marketing should be an element in your annual marketing plan.

9.  Do I have to ship the books in myself?

Infinity Publishing will ship the books for you if you are an Infinity Publishing author, and take care of getting your books to the CBE dropzone for each respective show you are participating in.  If you are not an Infinity Publishing author and published elsewhere, you are still welcome to purchase this service.  You will need to mail a copy of your book directly to the CBE dropzone.  Instructions will be provided once you place your order.

10. What happens to my book after the show?

Books displayed at US Shows are donated to a company in Florida, Mumford Library Books, which sells the books to librarians in the area at steep discounts (due to the state’s steepest budget cuts for libraries).  Mumford Library Books is also a distributor and orders more copies when they sell out.

Each show donates the books after the show to a certain organizations:

  • London Book Fair & BookExpo New Title Showcase – their official charities
  • Beijing Book Fair books will become the property of the Chinese National Publication Import Export Corporation, an official distributor in China and the organizers of the Fair
  • Frankfurt books - the Book Center in Amsterdam
  • Bologna books - English language schools in Bologna

This is a marketing service and with any marketing service, there is no guarantee of book sales.

Thank you for your business!
